New tyres fitted in Coventry

We supply new tyres and fit them where the car is parked: on a drive, outside your home, or at work in a car park whose owner allows it. You pick the tyre with us on the call, and the old ones leave with the fitter.

Please check the distance before you plan around us. Coventry is about 79 miles in a straight line from our only base at Brent Cross, NW2 (further by road). We have no base or van stationed nearby. Call and we will tell you straight away whether we can take the job; if we can, the arrival time is given on the call.

Booking new tyres from 79 miles away

Coventry is about 79 miles from Brent Cross, so new tyres here are a job to book ahead rather than an urgent call-out. Give us the size code from the sidewall of the tyre being replaced, for example 205/55 R16 91V, and say if it carries a run-flat or car-maker marking. The tyres are sourced before the fitter sets off, so the trip is only made once the right ones are found.

Where the size allows, we can quote more than one tier, and the tyre label lets you compare fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise. Ideally the two tyres on one axle should be the same make and pattern; they must be the same size and type. If the car left the factory on run-flat tyres, it was designed without a spare wheel, and it has a tyre pressure warning system because a run-flat can look normal when it has lost air. Our car tyres page explains the tiers, seasons and sizes in more detail.

What the job includes

  • Budget, mid-range and premium brands in your size
  • Fitting and balancing at the car
  • Valves checked and pressures set to the maker's figures
  • Wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench
  • The old tyres taken away
Where we can work

Where the car can be for the fitting

  • A drive, or a residential street where the car is legally parked with room beside the wheel, is the simplest place to work.
  • The city-centre multi-storeys inside the A4053 ring road and the West Orchards car park are private ground, so the work needs the operator's permission first. In a multi-storey, tell us the level and whether there is a height barrier.
  • We need firm, level ground beside the car and the locking wheel nut key if the car has locking nuts.
Pricing

Price and what the fitting includes

  • The price depends on the size, the tier you choose and how many tyres are fitted. It is confirmed on the call before anything is booked.
  • Each tyre is fitted, balanced and the wheel nuts tightened to the maker's torque at the car, and the old tyres are taken away.
Choosing tyres

Budget, mid-range or premium

Most new car tyres sold in the UK carry a label with three ratings: fuel efficiency, wet grip and external noise. Fuel efficiency and wet grip are graded by letter, with A the best, and noise is shown in decibels.

Premium brands usually score better on wet grip and last longer, which matters on a car that covers a lot of miles. A good mid-range tyre is often the sensible choice for town driving. We tell you which brands are made in your size and let you choose; the price is confirmed on the call.

All-season tyres are worth considering if you would rather not change tyres twice a year. They give up a little in the hottest and coldest weather, but stay usable all year round.

Run-flat tyres

Many newer cars, especially some BMW and MINI models, leave the factory on run-flat tyres and carry no spare wheel. The sidewall says so, with a marking such as RSC, ROF, SSR, ZP or RFT depending on the maker.

A car built for run-flats should stay on run-flats, because it has no spare to fall back on and its suspension is set up for their stiffer sidewalls. Tell us on the call if the car has them, so the right tyre is sourced.

Work at the car

The fitter comes to your home, your workplace or a safe place to park, raises the car on a jack and does the job beside it.

Checked before the fitter leaves

Before the fitter leaves, the wheel is checked for security and the tyre pressure is set to the maker's figure.

Before the visit

Getting the car ready

Leave the locking wheel nut key somewhere easy to find, such as the driver's seat or the glovebox, and tell us if the car will be at work rather than at home.

You do not need to stay with the car for the whole job, but someone needs to hand over the keys and agree the work. If the car is in a residents' bay or a work car park, check the fitter can park close to it.

Tread and age

When a tyre needs replacing

Most tyres have small raised bars in the main grooves, called tread wear indicators. When the tread is worn level with them, the tyre is at the legal limit. A 20p coin is a rough check: if the outer band of the coin shows when it is pushed into the main grooves, the tread may be close to the limit.

Grip in the wet falls away well before the limit, so many drivers replace tyres at around 3 mm. Age matters too: cracking in the sidewall or between the tread blocks means the rubber is perishing, even on a tyre with plenty of tread left.

Questions

Questions and answers

Do you fit part-worn tyres?
No. We fit new tyres only.
Can the fitter work in a hospital, station or retail park car park?

Yes, if the site allows it. Supermarket, retail park and station car parks are private ground, so the owner's permission comes first. Places of this kind in this area include:

  • University Hospital Coventry at Walsgrave
  • University of Warwick at Gibbet Hill
  • West Orchards shopping centre
Should new tyres go on the front or the rear?
When only two are replaced, the newer pair generally goes on the rear axle, which helps keep the car stable in the wet.
How do I find my tyre size?
Look on the side of the tyre for a code like 205/55 R16 91V. The handbook has it too, and many cars show it on a sticker inside the driver's door or the fuel flap.
Can you fit tyres to a car with pressure sensors?
Yes. Mention the sensors on the call, as they sit inside the wheel and stay with it when the tyre is changed.
Can you come to the motorway?
We never work on the carriageway of a motorway or main road, on a hard shoulder, in a smart motorway emergency area or on a slip road. If the car can be driven safely, leave at the next exit, stop away from traffic and then call.
Are you insured?
Yes. Rescue Tyres is fully insured, has fitted more than 2,000 tyres and is a UK registered company.
Can you fit tyres at my workplace?
Yes, if the site is happy for the work to be done there and there is room around the wheel. Tell us the address and where the car is parked on site.
Do new tyres come with a warranty?
New tyres carry the manufacturer's warranty against defects. It does not cover damage from punctures, kerbs or potholes.
