Workplace tyre fitting means a fitter comes to your office car park and sorts your tyres while you work, so you don't lose any personal time. You hand over the keys, carry on with your day, and come back to a car with new or repaired tyres. It's the same professional job a garage does, just done where your car sits while you're at your desk.
How workplace fitting works
You book a slot and tell us your tyre size or registration. A fitter arrives at your workplace in a fully equipped van, jacks the car, removes the wheel, fits and balances the new tyre (or repairs the puncture), sets the pressures and takes the old tyre away, all in your car park. It's exactly the same process as mobile fitting at home, simply at work instead. Wheels are torqued to the manufacturer's setting so the finished job is what a garage would sign off.
What we need from you
Three things make it quick: access to the car and the keys, a safe, level spot to work (most car parks are fine), and your tyre size or registration so we can source the right tyre. You don't need to be standing there, you can leave the keys and get back to work, which is the whole point. If the car has locking wheel nuts, leave the key for those in the glovebox or with reception, because without it the wheel cannot come off, see locking wheel nut removal.
Why it saves the most time
For a working person, the cost of a tyre isn't just the price, it's the half-day a garage trip can swallow. Fitting at work removes that entirely: the job happens during hours you'd be at your desk anyway, see how mobile compares to a garage on time and cost. No travel, no waiting room, no lost afternoon.
Great for busy teams and fleets
Workplaces with several vehicles, or a fleet, can have multiple cars or vans done in one visit, which is far more efficient than sending each to a garage separately. We can schedule around shifts so vehicles stay available during working hours.
Will the car park allow it?
Most workplace car parks are fine, but it is worth a two-minute check with whoever manages the space before you book. The van needs to park next to your car with room to open its side door, and the fitter needs a firm, level surface to jack on.
Points that occasionally cause a problem:
- Managed or landlord-run car parks. Some multi-tenant offices and business parks ask that contractors sign in at reception or with the facilities team. A quick email the day before usually sorts it.
- Height barriers. Multi-storey and underground car parks often have a 2m or lower barrier that a fitting van will not clear. If yours does, the fix is simple: move the car to a surface bay or a nearby street for the appointment.
- Steep ramps and sloping bays. A car should not be jacked on a significant slope. The fitter will ask you to move to a level bay if the allocated one is not suitable.
- Retail and public car parks next to your workplace sometimes prohibit vehicle work in their terms, so the office car park itself is the better option.
Tell us where the car will be when you book and we will flag anything that needs sorting in advance rather than on the day.
What can be done in a car park
Almost every routine tyre job can be done in a workplace car park, because the van carries the same tyre machine and balancer a garage uses. The exceptions are jobs that need a four-post ramp or an alignment rig.
| Job | At your workplace? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New tyre, one or more | Yes | Fitted, balanced and torqued; old tyre taken away |
| Puncture repair | Yes | To BS AU 159: central three-quarters of the tread, hole up to 6mm, tyre off the wheel for inspection |
| Seasonal swap (winter to summer set) | Ask on the call | Bring or store the second set in the boot |
| Locking wheel nut removal | Yes | If the key is lost or damaged, we can remove the nuts |
| TPMS sensor problems | Ask on the call | Tell us the warning light is on and we will say what we can do |
| Wheel balancing only | Yes | Useful for a vibration that appeared after a pothole |
| Four-wheel alignment | No | Needs a workshop rig; we will tell you if the wear pattern suggests it |
If the tyre turns out to be beyond repair, we will say so and offer a replacement rather than patch something that should not be patched. Our guide to whether a puncture can be repaired explains the rules we follow.
Company cars, lease cars and who pays
If the car is a company or lease vehicle, check the tyre policy before you book, because many agreements specify what may be fitted. It is a quick check and it avoids an awkward conversation at the end of the lease.
Common conditions in lease and fleet policies:
- Tyres must be the correct size with at least the load index and speed rating the car maker specifies, which many lease policies restate.
- Some leases require a premium or mid-range brand rather than a budget tyre, or an approved-supplier route. If yours does, we can usually supply a tyre that satisfies it; just tell us.
- Keep the VAT invoice. Employers and lease companies normally need it to reimburse you or to record the maintenance history.
- Puncture repairs are usually accepted provided they are done to the British Standard, which is exactly what a proper mobile repair is.
For people who drive high mileages for work, tyre wear is a running cost worth managing rather than reacting to; see tyres for high-mileage company cars.
A simple plan for employers
Offering tyre fitting at work is one of the cheapest staff benefits there is, because the employee pays for the tyre and the employer simply provides the car park. All it needs is a named contact and a few ground rules.
- Nominate one person, usually facilities or the office manager, who can confirm car park access on the day.
- Decide where fitting happens: a couple of level bays near the entrance, away from the main traffic flow, is ideal.
- Let staff know that mobile fitting is permitted, so they do not assume they must take a morning off.
- For company vehicles, agree who authorises the work and where invoices go.
Staff who check their own tyres monthly catch most problems before they become a callout. The TyreSafe monthly checks take a few minutes: pressure, condition and tread. A tyre found at 2mm in a routine check can be booked in for a quiet Tuesday; the same tyre found on the M25 cannot.
