Locking wheel nut removal in Brierley Hill

A snapped key stuck in the nut, a pattern that has worn smooth, or a key that is nowhere to be found: in DY5 the result is the same, a wheel that will not come off until the locking nut is removed at the car.

Brierley Hill is about 102 miles in a straight line from our only base at Brent Cross, NW2 (further by road). We have no base or van stationed nearby. Call and we will tell you straight away whether we can take the job; if we can, the arrival time is given on the call.

Locking wheel nuts

A broken key stuck in the nut

A snapped key is handled like a lost one: the nut comes out with the broken piece in it. A photo of the nut and the remaining part of the key helps the fitter see what is involved before the trip.

If someone has already tried a socket or a hammer on it, mention that too, because a nut that has been attacked is harder to remove without marking the alloy.

What the job includes

  • Removal with specialist tools, taking care of the alloy
  • A standard wheel nut of the right type fitted in its place
  • Every nut tightened to the maker's setting
  • Any tyre repair or new tyre done in the same visit
  • A check for proof that the car is yours or in your care
Where we can work

Merry Hill, the Waterfront and the streets around them

Merry Hill shopping centre, the Waterfront, Port West Retail Park and the Northmoor and Dawley trading estates all run private car parks. The owner has to agree before any work is done there.

A drive or a legal space on a quiet street in Quarry Bank, Pensnett, Withymoor Village, Harts Hill, Round Oak, the Delph or Silver End is the simplest option.

We never work on the carriageway of a motorway or main road, on a hard shoulder, in a smart motorway emergency area or on a slip road, so a car on the A4036 Pedmore Road or near M5 junctions 2 and 3 has to move off it first.

Locking wheel nuts

Coming from north London

The Black Country is a long trip for us, so the job goes in only when the diary allows. If we cannot come, the call tells you so, and your breakdown cover or someone closer may be the better choice.

Standard nuts or bolts go on in place of the locking nuts, or a new locking set if you want one. Give us the make, model and year so the right ones can be brought.

The price depends on how many locking nuts need removing and whether you want standard nuts or a new locking set, plus any tyre work. It is confirmed on the call before anyone sets off, and it does not change in the evening or at the weekend.

After removal

After the locking nut comes off

Every wheel nut is tightened to the maker's setting with a torque wrench. It is good practice to have the nuts checked again after the first short drive following any wheel work, as alloy wheels can settle slightly.

If you want locking nuts again, a new set can be fitted later. Keep the new key in the glovebox and note the key code somewhere outside the car, such as on your phone, so a replacement key can be ordered if it goes missing.

Step by step

From your call to the finished job

→

Tell us what happened

Tell us whether the key is lost, broken or rounded off. A clear photo of one of the nuts helps.

→

Agree what happens next

You hear what the job involves and the options for your car. Nothing is booked until you say yes.

→

Work at the car

The fitter comes to your home, your workplace or a safe place to park, raises the car on a jack and does the job beside it.

Checked before the fitter leaves

Before the fitter leaves, the wheel is checked for security and the tyre pressure is set to the maker's figure.

Before the visit

Before the nut comes off

If the key turns up but does not fit, or it slips on the nut, stop rather than force it: a rounded nut is harder to remove.

The previous owner, or the dealer that sold the car, may still have the key or its code, so a call to them can be worth it if the wheel can wait.

Questions

Questions and answers

Can I just buy a new key instead?
If you have the key code and the key is lost rather than the nut being damaged, yes, from the dealer or the maker of the set. It suits a car that does not need a wheel off soon.
Can the fitter work in a hospital, station or retail park car park?

Yes, if the site allows it. Supermarket, retail park and station car parks are private ground, so the owner's permission comes first. Places of this kind in this area include:

  • Merry Hill shopping centre
  • Brierley Hill bus station
  • Merry Hill bus station
  • Russells Hall Hospital (nearby)
Can you remove locking wheel nuts without the key?
Yes. Removal without the key is the whole point of the job, and it is done at the car.
What goes back on after removal?
Standard nuts matched to the wheel, or a new locking set if you prefer.
Will locking nut removal damage my alloy wheels?
The method is chosen to avoid that. If an earlier attempt has already marked the wheel, the fitter points it out before starting.
How soon can the fitter get to me?
It depends on how far the car is from our only base at Brent Cross, NW2, and on the jobs already booked.
Can I bring the car to you instead?
No. Rescue Tyres is fully mobile and works from one base at Brent Cross, NW2, which is not open to walk-in customers. The fitter comes to the car.
Are you insured?
Yes. Rescue Tyres is fully insured, has fitted more than 2,000 tyres and is a UK registered company.
Can you fit tyres at my workplace?
Yes, if the site is happy for the work to be done there and there is room around the wheel. Tell us the address and where the car is parked on site.
Do you charge more in the evening or at the weekend?
We work evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays when the diary allows, at the same price as a weekday job.
